Entropy stabilizes floppy crystals of mobile DNA-coated colloids
Grafting linkers with open ends of complementary single-stranded DNA makes a flexible tool to tune interactions between colloids, which facilitates the design of complex self-assembly structures. Recently, it has been proposed to coat colloids with mobile

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

RecA filament sliding on DNA facilitates homology search
During homologous recombination, RecA forms a helical filament on a single stranded (ss) DNA that searches for a homologous double stranded (ds) DNA and catalyzes the exchange of complementary base pairs to form a new heteroduplex.

Supramolecular DNA Three-Way Junction Motifs With a Bridging Metal Center
Various nano-sized supramolecular architectures have been constructed from DNA molecules via sequence-dependent self-assembly. A DNA three-way junction (3WJ), consisting of three oligonucleotides that are partially complementary to each other, is one of ...

The process of infection with bacteriophage phiX174, XXX. Replication of double-stranded phiX DNA [PDF]
Intermediates involved in the replication of double-stranded phiX174 RF DNA have been identified and partially characterized. Analysis of pulse-labeled RF DNA suggests that the synthesis of progeny RF molecules involves, in part, the addition of ...

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Identifying DNA motifs based on match and mismatch alignment information
The conventional way of identifying DNA motifs, solely based on match alignment information, is susceptible to a high number of spurious sites. A novel scoring system has been introduced by taking both match and mismatch alignment information into ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Femtomolar detection of nucleic acid based on functionalized gold nanoparticles
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) detection is essential for the accurate and early diagnosis of a disease. In this study, a femtomolar DNA detection method based on the exploitation of the localized surface plasmon (LSP) resonance of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)
