TRY plant trait database - enhanced coverage and open access [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Plant traits-the morphological, anatomical, physiological, biochemical and phenological characteristics of plants-determine how plants respond to environmental factors, affect other trophic levels, and influence ecosystem properties and their benefits ...

Axiomatic opportunities and obstacles for inferring a species tree from gene trees [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The reconstruction of a central tendency `species tree' from a large number of conflicting gene trees is a central problem in systematic biology. Moreover, it becomes particularly problematic when taxon coverage is patchy, so that not all taxa are ...

Complete Log Concavity of Coverage-Like Functions

open access: yes, 2023
We introduce an expressive subclass of non-negative almost submodular set functions, called strongly 2-coverage functions which include coverage and (sums of) matroid rank functions, and prove that the homogenization of the generating polynomial of any such function is completely log-concave, taking a step towards characterizing the coefficients of ...

Blinatumomab Utilization in Pediatric B‐Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: Experience From the Mountain West

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Blinatumomab is a bispecific T‐cell engager approved for the treatment of pediatric B‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B‐ALL). Outpatient home infusion reduces hospitalization burden and optimizes resource utilization, but is logistically challenging.

Coverage-Conflict-Aware RFID Reader Placement with Range Adjustment for Complete Tag Coverage in IIoT

open access: yesSensors
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a core enabler of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), yet dense deployments suffer from tag collisions and reader interference that degrade reliability and inflate infrastructure cost.

Assessing Cognitive Functioning in Children With Brain Tumors: Interaction of Neighborhood Social Determinants of Health and Neurological Risk

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background This study investigated how neighborhood‐level social determinants of health (SDOH), including redlining and neurological risk, interact to influence cognitive outcomes in children treated for brain tumors (CTBT). Methods A retrospective chart review of 161 CTBT aged 5–17 was conducted.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Correlates of Complete Childhood Vaccination in East African Countries. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Despite the benefits of childhood vaccinations, vaccination rates in low-income countries (LICs) vary widely. Increasing coverage of vaccines to 90% in the poorest countries over the next 10 years has been estimated to prevent 426 million cases of ...
