Irrational Complete Intersections

open access: yes, 2019
We prove that a complete intersection of $c$ very general hypersurfaces of degree at least two in $N$-dimensional complex projective space is not ruled (and therefore not rational) provided that the sum of the degrees of the hypersurfaces is at least $\tfrac{2}{3} N + c + 1$.

Surface Diffusion in SnTe‐PbTe Monolayer Lateral Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The lateral heterostructures between 2D materials often suffer from the interdiffusion at the interfaces. Here, a surface diffusion mechanism is found to be dominating at the interfaces between semiconducting SnTe and PbTe monolayers. Atomically sharp interfaces can be achieved by suppressing this diffusion process. ABSTRACT The construction of complex

Families of lines in Fano varieties complete intersection in a Grassmannian

open access: yesLe Matematiche, 2002
In this paper we determine all Fano varieties which are complete intersections of hypersurfaces in a Grassmannian. Then, in the case Fano's conjecture is satisfied, we give a formula in order to compute the dimension of the Hilbert scheme that ...

Towards deconstruction of the Type D (2,0) theory

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
We propose a four-dimensional supersymmetric theory that deconstructs, in a particular limit, the six-dimensional (2, 0) theory of type D k . This 4d theory is defined by a necklace quiver with alternating gauge nodes O(2k) and Sp(k).

Universal Electronic‐Structure Relationship Governing Intrinsic Magnetic Properties in Permanent Magnets

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Permanent magnets derive their extraordinary strength from deep, universal electronic‐structure principles that control magnetization, anisotropy, and intrinsic performance. This work uncovers those governing rules, examines modern modeling and AI‐driven discovery methods, identifies critical bottlenecks, and reveals electronic fingerprints shared ...

Calabi-Yau manifolds and SU(3) structure

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
We show that non-trivial SU(3) structures can be constructed on large classes of Calabi-Yau three-folds. Specifically, we focus on Calabi-Yau three-folds constructed as complete intersections in products of projective spaces, although we expect similar ...

From Mechanics to Electronics: Influence of ALD Interlayers on the Multiaxial Electro‐Mechanical Behavior of Metal–Oxide Bilayers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ultrathin AlOxHy interlayers between aluminum films and polymer substrates significantly improve electro‐mechanical properties of flexible thin film systems. By precisely controlling interlayer thickness using atomic layer deposition, this study identifies an optimal interlayer thickness of 5–10 nm that enhances ductility and delays cracking.

A new construction of Calabi–Yau manifolds: Generalized CICYs

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2016
We present a generalization of the complete intersection in products of projective space (CICY) construction of Calabi–Yau manifolds. CICY three-folds and four-folds have been studied extensively in the physics literature.

A Note on Complete Intersections [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 1982
Let R R be a regular local ring and let R [ T ] R[T] be a polynomial algebra in one variable over R R . In this paper the author proves that every maximal ideal of R [ T ] R[T] is complete intersection in each of the ...
