Kolmogorov complexity and generalized length functions
Kolmogorov complexity measures the algorithmic complexity of a finite binary string $ $ in terms of the length of the shortest description $ ^*$ of $ $. Traditionally, the length of a string is taken to measure the amount of information contained in the string.

Rational category and cone length of poincaré complexes
The authors prove the following two interesting results for a 1-connected Poincaré complex \(X\) (i.e. \(X\) is a simply-connected space with rational cohomology of finite type and satisfies Poincaré duality): (1) \(\text{cat}_0 (X)= \text{cl}_0 (X)\), where \(\text{cat}_0 (X)\) is the rational category of \(X\) and \(\text{cl}_0 (X)\) is the rational ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Computing the average shortest-path length (ASPL) of a large scale-free network needs much memory space and computation time. Based on the feature of scale-free network, we present a simplification algorithm by cutting the suspension points and the ...

Counting and effective rigidity in algebra and geometry
The purpose of this article is to produce effective versions of some rigidity results in algebra and geometry. On the geometric side, we focus on the spectrum of primitive geodesic lengths (resp., complex lengths) for arithmetic hyperbolic 2-manifolds ...

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Elongated styloid process: Is it a pathologic condition?
Objectives: The aims of this study were to evaluate the length, morphology, and calcification patterns of the elongated stylohyoid process (ESP) on panoramic radiographs and to investigate the symptoms related to it.

Natural polymorphism in BUL2 links cellular amino acid availability with chronological aging and telomere maintenance in yeast. [PDF]
Aging and longevity are considered to be highly complex genetic traits. In order to gain insight into aging as a polygenic trait, we employed an outbred Saccharomyces cerevisiae model, generated by crossing a vineyard strain RM11 and a laboratory strain ...

Complex band structure and electronic transmission
The function of nano-scale devices critically depends on the choice of materials. For electron transport junctions it is natural to characterize the materials by their conductance length dependence, $\beta$.
