Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Efficiency of artificial neural networks in determining scour depth at composite bridge piers

open access: yesInternational Journal of River Basin Management, 2019
Scouring is the most common cause of bridge failure. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficiency of the Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) in determining scour depth around composite bridge piers.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Fire behavior of composite steel truss bridge girders: numerical investigation and design strategies

open access: yesAdvances in Bridge Engineering
Fire pose more severe threat to steel truss bridge girders as compared to common steel plate and box bridge girders. To deeply clarify failure mechanism of fire exposed steel truss bridge girders, this paper presents an investigation on fire performance ...

Bending performance of prefabricated ultra-thin UHPC unit plate reinforced orthotropic steel bridge decks

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials
To address the challenges related to lengthy construction period, complex maintenance requirement, and the elevated risk of shrinkage cracking associated with cast-in-place UHPC reinforcement of orthotropic steel bridge decks. This paper proposes a novel

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Numerical study of pedestrian suspension bridge with innovative composite deck

open access: yesHeliyon, 2020
The increasing trend of using light and slender deck in pedestrian bridge has raised the issue of instability under pedestrian movement. The suspension pedestrian bridges are more vulnerable as lateral vibration often occurred in such type of bridges ...

Influence of local deck vibrations on the evaluation of the maximum acceleration of a steel-concrete composite bridge for a high-speed railway

open access: yes, 2019
European design standards have established an upper limit on the deck acceleration of the high-speed railway bridges, however the influence of local vibrations of the deck members is rarely considered when modelling the vibrational responses of bridges ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
