Geographic variation in walking activity in the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examined whether there is geographic variation in field populations, focusing on the moving activity in the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum. Results showed significant differences in moving activity among field populations but no correlation with latitude or meteorological factors.

A Simple Algorithm for Prime Factorization and Primality Testing

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics, 2022
We propose a new simple and faster algorithm to factor numbers based on the nature of the prime numbers contained in such composite numbers. It is well known that every composite number has a unique representation as a product of prime numbers.

Investigation of Drying Process Kinetics of Composite Granules

open access: yesEnergy Engineering and Control Systems, 2022
Among the large number of modern environmental problems in Ukraine, waste of wastewater treatment stations occupies a special place. During biological water treatment, the separated sludge deposits are sent to the silt fields, which are the biggest ...

Nucleosomal composition at the centromere: a numbers game [PDF]

open access: yesChromosome Research, 2013
The Centromere is a unique chromosomal locus where the kinetochore is formed to mediate faithful chromosome partitioning, thus maintaining ploidy during cell division. Centromere identity is inherited via an epigenetic mechanism involving a histone H3 variant, called centromere protein A (CENP-A) which replaces H3 in centromeric chromatin.

occumb: An R package for site occupancy modeling of eDNA metabarcoding data

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study introduces a new R package, occumb, for the convenient application of site occupancy modeling using environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding data. We outline a data analysis workflow, including data setup, model fitting, model assessment, and comparison of potential study settings based on model predictions, all of which can be performed using

Moving in the Dark: Enlightening the Spatial Population Ecology of European Cave Salamanders

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We assessed individual interactions, movement ecology and activity patterns of a subterranean population of Speleomantes strinatii, applying spatial capture–recapture modeling to a photographic dataset of 104 individuals. ABSTRACT Space use and movement are fundamental aspects of organisms' ecology, mirroring individual fitness, behavior, and life ...

Highly Composite Numbers

open access: yes, 2023
The main result of this thesis is to show that there are only finitely many integers $n$ such that both $n$ and $d(n)$ are highly composite numbers at the same time, where $d(n)$ is the divisor function. Bertrand's postulate [4] is used many times throughout the thesis and allows us to write a proof that is as simple (and as short) as possible.

An Adaptive Management Model for Brown Bears in Hokkaido: Based on Total Population and the Number of Nuisance Bears

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Bear management changes management actions according to the horizontal axis of the population size and the vertical axis of the number of nuisance bears. Aiming for the target population size of Ntar, Actions I and II protect the bears, and Action IV reduces the population.
