Experimental Investigations and Modelling of a Composite Piezoceramic Disc with Different Modes of Vibrations

open access: yes, 2017
This contribution deals with the experimental investigations and modelling of the mechanical vibrations of the piezoelectric disc-shaped resonator, attached to a mechanically clamped metal membrane, which creates the composite resonator structure, the so

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Impact performance of composite sandwich structure under high velocity impact [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Composite sandwich panels are well known for their relatively high stiffness over weight ratio and have been increasing utilized in various applications where the weight of the structure is a key design concern, e.g.

Ablation of C/SiC-HfC composite prepared by precursor infiltration and pyrolysis in plasma wind tunnel

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics, 2020
Carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide-hafnium carbide (C/SiC-HfC) composite was prepared by precursor infiltration and pyrolysis process. Then, ablation behavior of C/SiC-HfC was evaluated in plasma wind tunnel.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Long-term oxidation of Ti3Al0.8Sn0.2C2 in air at 1200 °C

open access: yesOpen Ceramics
The addition of Sn into the raw materials is currently one of the most widely used methods to improve the purity and mechanical properties of Ti3AlC2. It follows in this work to investigate the oxidation behavior of the resulting Ti3Al0.8Sn0.2C2 at 1200 °

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.
