The Improvement of Interfacial Bonding, Weathering and Recycling of Wood Fibre Reinforced Polypropylene Composites

open access: yes, 2007
This study deals with medium density wood fibre (MDF) and Kraft fibre reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites produced using extrusion followed by injection moulding. Initially, composites were produced with MDF fibre using 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 wt%

Laminate composites with enhanced pyroelectric effects for energy harvesting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A pyroelectric coefficient enhanced 2-2 connectivity laminate composites' energy harvesting credentials have been assessed. The use of the electrothermal coupling factor for laminate composites (k(Lam)(2)) for such an assessment has been appraised ...

On the Complexity of Composition and Generalized Composition of Power Series

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Computing, 1980
Let F(x) = f1x + f2(x)(x) + . . . be a formal power series over a field Delta. Let F superscript 0(x) = x and for q = 1,2 . . . , define F superscript q(x) = F superscript (q-1) (F(x)). The obvious algorithm for computing the first n terms of F superscript q(x) is by the composition position analogue of repeated squaring.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Anisotropy of reinforcement fibres and its influence on the apparent interfacial shear strength in thermoplastic composites

open access: yes, 2008
Optimization of the stress transfer capability of the fibre-matrix interphase region is critical to achieving the required performance level in thermoplastic matrix composites.

Performance of tufted carbin fibre/epoxy composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The thesis presents a detailed analysis of the effects of one-sided access z-direction reinforcement, ‘tufting’, on the morphology and mechanical performance of the resulting MVR-444 epoxy matrix/carbon fibre fabric composites.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Material characterisation and calibration of a meso-mechanical damage model for braid reinforced composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Cost effective braid reinforced composites are a potential substitute for metals in many automotive structural applications where good mechanical performance combined with high energy absorption are of special interest.
