Response: An Invitation to a Too-Long Postponed Conversation: Race and Composition by Octavio Pimentel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Octavio Pimentel’s “Racism and Composition: Redesigning the Composition Classroom to be more Culturally Inclusive” critically provokes pedagogical and programmatic questions by focusing on pressing issues of race and language within a historical context ...

Composition of Motion Description Languages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We introduce a new formalism to compose interacting heterogeneous systems described by extended motion description languages ( mdl es). The novelty lies in producing a composed system whose behavior could be a superset of the union of the behaviors of its generators. In the class of systems modeled using mdl es, the composition operator is closed, and

Chemoresistome mapping in individual breast cancer patients unravels diversity in dynamic transcriptional adaptation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study used longitudinal transcriptomics and gene‐pattern classification to uncover patient‐specific mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance in breast cancer. Findings reveal preexisting drug‐tolerant states in primary tumors and diverse gene rewiring patterns across patients, converging on a few dysregulated functional modules. Despite receiving the

The Collision of Two Lexicons: Librarians, Composition Instructors and the Vocabulary of Source Evaluation

open access: yesEvidence Based Library and Information Practice, 2016
Objective – The study has two aims. The first is to identify words and phrases from information literacy and rhetoric and composition that students used to justify the comparability of two sources. The second is to interpret the effectiveness of students’

Landscape of BRAF transcript variants in human cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We investigate the annotation of BRAF variants, focusing on protein‐coding BRAF‐220 (formerly BRAF‐reference) and BRAF‐204 (BRAF‐X1). The IsoWorm pipeline allows us to quantify these variants in human cancer, starting from RNA‐sequencing data. BRAF‐204 is more abundant than BRAF‐220 and impacts patient survival.

The relationship between first and second language composition writing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper explores the ways in which the transfer of assumptions from L1 writing can sometimes help the process of writing in L2. In learning a second language writing skill, learners have two primary sources to construct a second language system ...

Localising memory retrieval and syntactic composition: an fMRI study of naturalistic language comprehension

open access: yesLanguage, Cognition and Neuroscience, 2018
This study examines memory retrieval and syntactic composition using fMRI while participants listen to a book, The Little Prince. These two processes are quantified drawing on methods from computational linguistics.

Decrypting cancer's spatial code: from single cells to tissue niches

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Spatial transcriptomics maps gene activity across tissues, offering powerful insights into how cancer cells are organised, switch states and interact with their surroundings. This review outlines emerging computational, artificial intelligence (AI) and geospatial approaches to define cell states, uncover tumour niches and integrate spatial data with ...

Variable elimination for building interpreters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper, we build an interpreter by reusing host language functions instead of recoding mechanisms of function application that are already available in the host language (the language which is used to build the interpreter).
