Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

The Mechanism of Current Transfer in n-GaAs – p(ZnSe)1-x-y(Ge2)x(GaAs1–δBiδ)y Heterostructures

open access: yesEast European Journal of Physics
The I-V characteristics of heterostructures n-GaAs – p-(ZnSe)1–x–y(Ge2)x(GaAs1–δBiδ) exhibit a characteristic quadratic law - J~V2 I-V curve, followed by a sharp pre-breakdown current growth, which well explains the observed straight branch of the I-V ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Activity and characterization of antifungal compounds from the peel of sweet orange Citrus sinenesis fruits

open access: yesJournal of Crop Protection, 2018
Environmental risks associated with the use of synthetic fungicides have resulted in an emergent trend in plant disease control with focus on the use of botanicals. In this work, the peels of ripe sweet orange fruits were removed, air dried, powdered and

Obtaining and Measuring Impedance Characteristics of the Ag8SiSe6 Compound

open access: yesEast European Journal of Physics
Samples of the Ag8SiSe6 compound were obtained by direct alloying of initial components and subsequent pressing of powders under a pressure of 0.7 GPa. Temperature dependences of conductivity (σ(T)) and permittivity (ε(T)) of the Ag8SiSe6 compound were ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Klasik Türk Mûsikisinde Terkipler ve Yenilenme

open access: yesBartın Üniversitesi İslami İlimler Fakültesi Dergisi
Türk musikisi teorisini şekillendiren en önemli etmen uygulamadır. Musiki teorisi üzerine yazılan eserlerde, zaman zaman, teori ile uygulamanın çatıştığı ifade edilmiş, benimsenen farklı yaklaşımlarla teorinin uygulamayı en iyi şekilde ifade etmesi ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Urban college campuses as safer refuge for wildlife perceived as dangerous: A case study on snakes in Madras Christian College, Chennai, India

open access: yesJournal of Fauna Biodiversity
We surveyed for snakes in a historic, old, educational institution having a large and well-vegetated campus. From a three-year survey (2016-18), spanning 288 field days, covering 1152 hours of fieldwork, a total of 132 snake sightings representing 23 ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...
