Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

A numerical investigation of the compressible mixing layer
The effect of Mach number on the plane muong layer has been investigated by means of linear stability theory and two- and three-dimensional direct numerical simulations of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations.

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

A two-pressure model for slightly compressible single phase flow in bi-structured porous media [PDF]
Problems involving flow in porous media are ubiquitous in many natural and engineered systems. Mathematical modeling of such systems often relies on homogenization of pore-scale equations and macroscale continuum descriptions.

Approximation of a Class of Incompressible Third Grade Fluids Equations
This paper discusses the approximation of weak solutions for a class of incompressible third grade fluids equations. We first introduce a family of perturbed slightly compressible third grade fluids equations (depending on a positive parameter ϵ) which ...

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Numerical simulation of liquid sloshing in LNG tanks using a compressible two-fluid flow model
In this investigation the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations are modified to account for variable density and viscosity of the two-fluids flow (i.e. water-air), assuming both fluids compressible.

DNS and scaling law analysis of compressible turbulent channel flow
Fully developed compressible turbulent channel flow (Ma = 0.8, Re = 3300) is numerically simulated, and the data base of turbulence is established.

Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Error estimation and adjoint-based adaptation in aerodynamics
In this article we give an overview of recent developments in error estimation and in residual-based and goal-oriented (adjoint-based) adaptation for Discontinuous Galerkin discretizations of sub- and supersonic viscous compressible flows.
