Structural behaviour of elliptical hollow sections under combined compression and uniaxial bending [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The structural behaviour of elliptical hollow sections (EHS) has been examined in previous studies under the isolated loading conditions of pure compression and pure bending.

Heterogeneity in the Global Practice of Central Nervous System Staging in Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Central nervous system (CNS) involvement in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is assessed by cell counting and cytomorphology from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and is used for treatment stratification worldwide. The ratio of “CNS2” patients in clinical trials ranges from 3% to 40%, with unclear prognostic significance ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Study of tensile strength and compression strength of binary polymeric blends (High Density poly ethylene /polycarbonate) [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2008
In this work, HDPE/PC binary polymeric blends has been made by using the singlescrew extruder machine .The tensile strength measurements showed that this blend have higherresults reflects the homogeneity of the mixture and higher strengthcompared with ...

SOC Test Optimization with Compression-Technique Selection

open access: yes, 2008
The increasing test-data volumes needed for the testing of system-on-chip (SOC) lead to long test times and high memory requirements. We present an analysis to highlight the fact that the impact of a test-data compression technique on test time and ...

The influence of salt formation on electrostatic and compression properties of flurbiprofen salts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Salt formation is an effective method of improving physicochemical properties of acidic and basic drugs. The selection of a salt form most suitable for drug development requires a well-designed screening strategy to ensure various issues are addressed in

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Hydrostatic compression on polypropylene foam [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Models currently used to simulate the impact behaviour of polymeric foam at high strain rates use data from mechanical tests. Uniaxial compression is the most common mechanical test used, but the results from this test alone are insufficient to ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Potential of High Compressive Ductility of Ultrafine Grained Copper Fabricated by Severe Plastic Deformation

open access: yesMetals, 2020
Severe plastic deformation (SPD) can fabricate high-strength materials by forming an ultrafine grained (UFG) microstructure. Low elongation to failure of UFG materials in tensile tests, which has often been regarded as a measure of ductility of materials,
