Numerical investigation of pile foundation systems employing an enhanced embedded finite element

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment
The design of large-scale pile foundation systems is routinely assisted by finite element simulations. To a large extent, both the modeling and the computational effort of such analyses are governed by the adopted pile modeling technique. The traditional

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Microstructure influence on crack propagation behavior of nodular cast iron

open access: yesDyna
This paper offers a comprehensive analysis of the crack propagation behavior of a specific type of Nodular Cast Iron (NCI) and its correlation with microstructural morphology.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

Application of sensitivity analysis in microscale heat transfer

open access: yesComputer Assisted Methods in Engineering and Science, 2017
In the paper, the thin metal film subjected to the ultrashort laser pulse has been analyzed. The heat conduction in the domain considered has been described by two-temperature model consisting of the system of two coupled parabolic equations determining

Modeling, Simulation, and Vision-/MPC-Based Control of a PowerCube Serial Robot

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
A model predictive control (MPC) scheme for a Schunk PowerCube robot is derived in a structured step-by-step procedure. Neweul-M2 provides the necessary nonlinear model in symbolical and numerical form.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Mesh refitting approach: a simple method to model mixed-mode crack propagation in nonlinear elastic solids

open access: yesAdvanced Modeling and Simulation in Engineering Sciences, 2017
We devise a finite element methodology to trace quasi-static through-thickness crack paths in nonlinear elastic solids. The main feature of the proposed method is that it can be directly implemented into existing large scale finite element solvers with ...
