Associative Electron Detachment in Sprites
The balance of processes affecting electron density drives the dynamics of upper‐atmospheric electrical events, such as sprites. We examine the detachment of electrons from negatively charged atomic oxygen (O−) via collisions with neutral molecular ...

Trajectories of Physical Function in Canadian Children With Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
Objective We describe trajectories of physical function in children newly diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and identify trajectories with persisting functional impairments and associated baseline characteristics. Methods We included patients enrolled in the Canadian Alliance of Pediatric Rheumatology Investigators (CAPRI) Registry ...

Characteristics of turbulent mixing at late stage of the Richtmyer-Meshkov instability
We present a model for the mixing width, h, at self-similar stage of the Richtmyer-Meshkov instability (RMI). The derivation of the model is based on the formula of the growth rate of mixing width [Gao et al., Phys.

Aspects Of Computability In Physics
This paper reviews connections between physics and computation, and explores their implications. The main topics are computational "hardness" of physical systems, computational status of fundamental theories, quantum computation, and the Universe as a computer.

Development of a Disease Activity Index for the Assessment of VEXAS Syndrome (VEXAS‐DAI)
Objective VEXAS syndrome is characterized by a complex spectrum of inflammatory and hematologic manifestations. Clinical research to identify effective therapies is urgently needed but is hindered by the lack of validated outcome measures. A VEXAS‐specific disease activity index (DAI) is an essential tool for reliably capturing changes in disease ...

Generalized One-Dimensional Periodic Potential Wells Tending to the Dirac Delta Potential
The solution of a quantum periodic potential in solid state physics is relevant because one can understand how electrons behave in a corresponding crystal.

This article proposes a convergent adaptive observer for a damped wave PDE and an infinite‐dimensional ODE coupled in cascade using sampled‐in‐space ODE state measurements. The proposed observer estimates the distributed states of the PDE and ODE along with unknown PDE parameters and spatial input.

Validation for equation of state in wide regime: Copper as prototype
In this paper we introduce the wide regime equation of state (WEOS) developed in Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics (IAPCM). A semi-empirical model of the WEOS is given by a thermodynamically complete potential of the Helmholtz ...

The physical limits of computing
Many of the fundamental limits on information processing, from thermodynamics, relativity, and quantum mechanics, are only a few decades away. Novel physically motivated computing paradigms, such as reversible computing and quantum computing, may help in certain ways, but even they remain subject to some basic limits.
