Multilayered Autoscaling Performance Evaluation: Can Virtual Machines and Containers Co–Scale?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, 2019
The wide adoption of cloud computing by businesses is due to several reasons, among which the elasticity of the cloud virtual infrastructure is the definite leader.

Zone adaptive fuel mapping for high resolution wildfire spread forecasting

open access: yesScientific Reports
Extreme wildfire events (EWE), although a rare natural hazard, account for a substantial portion of global wildfire damage, requiring proactive anticipation and mitigation due to their increasing occurrence.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

A Cerebellar Neuroprosthetic System: Computational Architecture and in vivo Test [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2014
Emulating the input-output functions performed by a brain structure opens the possibility for developing neuroprosthetic systems that replace damaged neuronal circuits. Here, we demonstrate the feasibility of this approach by replacing the cerebellar circuit responsible for the acquisition and extinction of motor memories.

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Large computer systems and new architectures addendum [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Physics Communications, 1982
Abstract This addendum brings the paper referenced up-to-date as of January 1981. The new market situation in the area of super computers is reviewed and the only really new machine, the CDC CYBER 205, is described. The CRAY-1S series is briefly described and the FPS-164 is mentioned. The fact that Burroughs discontinued the BSP project is mentioned.
