Graph Treewidth and Geometric Thickness Parameters

open access: yes, 2005
Consider a drawing of a graph $G$ in the plane such that crossing edges are coloured differently. The minimum number of colours, taken over all drawings of $G$, is the classical graph parameter "thickness".

Enhanced discovery of bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase through computer simulation and metagenomic analysis of industrial wastewater

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We obtained potential bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase (LMCO) sequences through metagenomic sequencing. All sequences exhibited significant differences from known LMCOs in databases. To select the most promising candidates, we performed structure prediction and molecular docking using alphafold2, metal3d and rosetta.

An approach for coherent periodogram averaging of tilt‐series data for improved contrast transfer function estimation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The contrast transfer function (CTF) is an imaging aberration that is a major resolution‐limiting factor in cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM). Precise CTF estimation is key to overcoming this limitation, but is particularly challenging in cryo‐electron tomography (cryo‐ET) data. Here, we present an approach for using geometric information to assist in

Modelling of a double‐scattering proton therapy nozzle using the FLUKA Monte Carlo code and analysis of linear energy transfer in patients treated for prostate cancer

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The dose‐averaged linear energy transfer (LETD) in proton therapy (PT) has in pre‐clinical studies been linked to the relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of protons. Until recently, the most common PT delivery method in prostate cancer has been double‐scattered PT, with LETD only available through dedicated Monte Carlo (MC ...

Coherent Computational Analysis of Large-Scale Explosions and Fires in Complex Geometries – From Combustion Science to a Safer Oil and Gas Industry

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2016
The present paper demonstrates and discusses the development of a coherent technology for both gas explosion and fire safety assessment in the oil and gas industry based on the Eddy Dissipation Concept (EDC). The physical basis of the concept is recapitulated and the implementation and application of the EDC model in the advanced KFX™ computational ...

Geometry and Coding: Introducing an Interactive and Integrated Mathematics-Computer Science Unit

open access: yes, 2023
As part of a collaborative project between Utah State University, the Cache County School District, and Stanford, instructional units were designed for fifth-grade students. These units integrated math concepts of geometrical shapes and computer science concepts of sequences, conditionals, and loops.
