Hydrogel‐Mediated Preservation of Live Tumor Explants for Drug Development in Peritoneal Metastases

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a hyaluronan‐based hydrogel platform preserving the native tumor microenvironment (morphology, tissue composition, histology) of patient‐derived explants from peritoneal metastases, enabling clinically relevant drug screening. Hydrogel properties such as stiffness and degradation are crucial for longer‐term histoculture.

Mechanochromic, Low‐Cost, and Structurally Colored Displays Using Biodegradable Hydroxypropyl Cellulose

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Mechanochromic hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) integrated with microfluidic devices creates scalable, eco‐friendly reflective color displays. We demonstrate mechanochromic displays with 500 µm pixel size and 5Hz switching rates with room for optimisation. The proposed mechanochromic HPC displays are an initial step toward more environmentally responsible

Molecular Domino Toppling for Directed Self‐Erasing Information Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 26, July 3, 2025.
An azobenzene‐based material with unprecedented light‐pumped directional charge‐transfer reminiscent of toppling dominoes is presented. After light‐induced trans→cis forward isomerization, electron hopping occurs in a sequential and propagating manner between the cis isomers along with an electrocatalytic cis→trans backward isomerization.

On‐Chip Active Non‐Reciprocal Topological Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 26, July 3, 2025.
An ultra‐compact and efficient on‐chip isolator is experimentally demonstrated by integrating magneto‐optical InSb onto a terahertz silicon topological chip. The simultaneous breaking of spatial and temporal reversal symmetries forms a valley‐conserved non‐reciprocal waveguide mode, enabling a compact cavity size of 6.4 × 2.5λ2 and a low insertion loss

Designing Physical Unclonable Functions From Optically Active Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Assigning unforgeable “fingerprints” to manufactured goods is a key strategy to fight global counterfeiting. Optical physical unclonable functions (PUFs) are chemically generated random patterns of optically active materials serving as unique authenticators.

Quantifying the Effects of Geometric Parameters on the Elastic Properties of Multilayer Graphene Platelet Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Realistic random 3D periodic representative volume element models of multilayer graphene platelet films are constructed to perform simulations, quantify the effects of different geometric parameters on all their five independent elastic properties, and uncover the dominant deformation mechanisms.

Reconfigurable Liquid Crystal‐Based Physical Unclonable Function Integrating Optical and Electrical Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Reconfigurable physical unclonable function (PUF) integrating optical and electrical responses in organic field‐effect transistor is developed by using unique optical fingerprint textures and random molecular alignment of the semiconductive smectic liquid crystal. This approach enhances security by enabling hierarchical authentication, providing robust
