Quantum Computing for Data Centric Engineering and Science [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
In this perspective I give my answer to the question of how quantum computing will impact on data-intensive applications in engineering and science. I focus on quantum Monte Carlo integration as a likely source of (relatively) near-term quantum advantage, but also discuss some other ideas that have garnered wide-spread interest.

Utilizing Online and Open-Source Machine Learning Toolkits to Leverage the Future of Sustainable Engineering [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Recently, there has been a national push to use machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) to advance engineering techniques in all disciplines ranging from advanced fracture mechanics in materials science to soil and water quality testing in the civil and environmental engineering fields.

Engineering Education in the Age of Autonomous Machines [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
In the past few years, we have observed a huge supply-demand gap for autonomous driving engineers. The core problem is that autonomous driving is not one single technology but rather a complex system integrating many technologies, and no one single academic department can provide comprehensive education in this field.

QRMW: Quantum representation of multi wavelength images [PDF]

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, 26(2), 768-779 (2018), 2018
In this study, we propose quantum representation of multi wavelength images (QRMW) which gives preparation and retrieving procedures of quantum images. Proposed QRMW model represents multi-channel and 2^n x 2^m images. Also, we present image comparison and some image operations based on QRMW model.

Machine Learning for Computational Science and Engineering -- a brief introduction and some critical questions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now entering every sub-field of science, technology, engineering, arts, and management. Thanks to the hype and availability of research funds, it is being adapted in many fields without much thought. Computational Science and Engineering (CS&E) is one such sub-field.

Integration strategies for Computational Science & Engineering software [PDF]

open access: yes2009 ICSE Workshop on Software Engineering for Computational Science and Engineering, 2009
In order to make significant progress in solving challenging problems in Computational Science & Engineering (CS&E), we need to integrate a large amount of software written by different groups of experts. Modern Lean/Agile methodologies would seem to provide a good foundation for research-driven development of complex CS&E software.

The assertive profile of the Bulgarian students in computer science and computer engineering [PDF]

open access: yesI.J. Education and Management Engineering, 2014, 1, 1-8, 2014
Different points of view on the nature and content of the assertiveness are followed in this paper. The main purpose is to study the assertive profile of Bulgarian students in computer science and computer engineering by analyzing the components of assertiveness. Research was performed using testing methods.

Massive Computation for Understanding Core-Collapse Supernova Explosions [PDF]

open access: yesComputing in Science & Engineering, vol.18, no. 5, pp. 78-92, Sept.-Oct. 2016, 2016
How do massive stars explode? Progress toward the answer is driven by increases in compute power. Petascale supercomputers are enabling detailed three-dimensional simulations of core-collapse supernovae. These are elucidating the role of fluid instabilities, turbulence, and magnetic field amplification in supernova engines.

Automatic Differentiation for Inverse Problems with Applications in Quantum Transport [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
A neural solver and differentiable simulation of the quantum transmitting boundary model is presented for the inverse quantum transport problem. The neural solver is used to engineer continuous transmission properties and the differentiable simulation is used to engineer current-voltage characteristics.
