On the Epistemology of Computer Simulation

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Design of Intelligent Control Law Embedded With Dynamic Flow Field Perception Method for High-Angle-of-Attack Maneuvers of Numerical Virtual Flight Agent

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering
In numerical virtual flight (NVF) tasks, strong unsteady flow disturbances can change aerodynamic behavior and reduce the effectiveness of control surfaces, increase the difficulty of aerodynamics modeling and controlling at high-angle-of-attack (high ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Optimal saturated information load analysis for enhancing robustness in unmanned swarms system

open access: yesComplex & Intelligent Systems
Saturated information load is defined as the information received by a unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) node in a swarm network reaches the overload limit of its processing capability.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Perfect Local Computability and Computable Simulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We study perfectly locally computable structures, which are (possibly uncountable) structures ${\mathcal{S}}$ that have highly effective presentations of their local properties. We show that every such ${\mathcal{S}}$ can be simulated, in a strong sense and even over arbitrary finite parameter sets, by a computable structure. We also study the category

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Regional impacts of solar radiation modification on surface temperature and precipitation in Mainland Southeast Asia and the adjacent oceans

open access: yesScientific Reports
Solar radiation modification (SRM) has been proposed to temporarily reduce anthropogenic warming. This study presents an assessment of the regional impacts of SRM via solar dimming and stratospheric aerosol injection (SAI) on temperature and ...
