Fuzzy logic = computing with words
IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, 1996As its name suggests, computing with words (CW) is a methodology in which words are used in place of numbers for computing and reasoning. The point of this note is that fuzzy logic plays a pivotal role in CW and vice-versa. Thus, as an approximation, fuzzy logic may be equated to CW. There are two major imperatives for computing with words.

From computing with numbers to computing with numeric words [PDF]
In 2008, Lotfi Zadeh concluded that to make significant progress toward achievement of human level machine intelligence a paradigm shift is needed. In previous papers we introduced the computational information conservation theory (CICT) approach to get more effective and reliable cognitive, biophysical, and biomedical engineering simulation solutions.

Computing with words beyond quantitative words: Incongruity modeling [PDF]
Soft computing and computing with words (CWW) operate with uncertain natural language (NL) statements to make NL statements more exact. Currently these NL statements in CWW are limited by quantitative concepts. This paper expands CWW beyond quantitative words to texts that contain incongruities.

A formal model of computing with words [PDF]
Classical automata are formal models of computing with values. Fuzzy automata are generalizations of classical automata where the knowledge about the system's next state is vague or uncertain. It is worth noting that like classical automata, fuzzy automata can only process strings of input symbols.

A Fuzzy Petri-Nets Model for Computing With Words [PDF]
Motivated by Zadeh's paradigm of computing with words (CWs) rather than numbers, several formal models of CWs have recently been proposed. These models are based on automata and, thus, are not well suited for concurrent computing.

Ontological approach to development of computing with words based systems [PDF]
Computing with words introduced by Zadeh becomes a very important concept in processing of knowledge represented in the form of propositions. Two aspects of this concept – approximation and personalization – are essential to the process of building ...

What Computing with Words Means to Me [Discussion Forum [PDF]
Computing with words (CWW) means different things to different people. This article is the start of a position paper, written by some of the members of the CIS Fuzzy Systems Technical Committee Task Force on CWW, that answers the question "What does CWW ...
