Tissue‐Stimulator Platform for Electrically Stimulating Pancreatic β‐Cells for Long‐Term Functional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.

Intrinsic Photoactive Star ZnPc–Poly(glutamate) Nanoplatforms for Multimodal Glioblastoma Therapy and Brain‐Targeted Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An intrinsic photoactive star‐shaped zinc phtalocyanine‐poly(L‐glutamic acid) (ZnPc‐PGA) nanoplatform for multimodal glioblastoma (GBM) therapy and brain‐targeted elivery. A ZnPc‐PGA‐based multifunctional theranostic nanocarrier platform enables image‐guided, multimodal GBM therapy. ZnPc‐PGA nanocarriers support the integration of fluorescence imaging,

Development of patient reported outcome measures assessing tumor pain intensity and tumor pain interference for individuals with neurofibromatosis type 1 and plexiform neurofibromas: qualitative findings

open access: yesJournal of Patient-Reported Outcomes
Background Pain is a common symptom in individuals with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) that often is associated with plexiform neurofibroma (pNF) tumors. To date, no patient-reported outcome measures have been validated specifically to assess pNF-related

Engineering Pendant Group Chemistry to Control Hydrophilicity and Oxidative Degradation of Thioketal‐Based Biomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thioketal (TK) polymers are promising biomaterials due to their selective biodegradation by reactive oxygen species (ROS), but they respond slowly to physiologic doses of ROS. Here, the TK bond's pendant groups are modified to enhance the degradation of TK‐based implants both in vitro and in vivo.

Using language technologies to support individual formative feedback [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In modern educational environments for group learning it is often challenging for tutors to provide timely individual formative feedback to learners. Taking the case of undergraduate Medicine, we have found that formative feedback is generally provided ...

Mechanoluminescent HOF Nanotransducers Enabled Sono‐Optogenetics in Parkinsonian Rats

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a mechanoluminescent system utilizing porous hydrogen‐bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) as a toolkit for focused ultrasound‐triggered, non‐invasive light delivery to the deep brain in rats. This approach enables the specific activation of PV‐GPe neurons in dopamine‐depleted Parkinson's disease rat models, resulting in a comparable alleviation

Targeting Post‐Irradiation Thyroid Dysfunction: Electrospun Scaffolds As A Dual‐Action Approach for Antioxidant and Immune Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Radiation‐induced hypothyroidism follows head and neck radiotherapy due to oxidative stress and inflammation. Electrospun polycaprolactone scaffolds containing adenosine have potential to modulate thyroid repair. Scaffolds enhance thyrocyte proliferation, antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase and catalase, reduce senescence and apoptosis markers ...
