A Probabilistic Truth-Conditional Semantics for Indicative Conditionals

open access: yesStudia Semiotyczne, 2022
In my article, I present a new version of a probabilistic truth prescribing semantics for natural language indicative conditionals. The proposed truth conditions can be paraphrased as follows: an indicative conditional is true if the corresponding ...

Adenylyl Cyclase 8 in Dorsal CA1 Neurons Prevents Depressive‐Like Behaviors by Maintaining Neuronal Excitability and Glutamatergic Neurotransmission Through TIP39‐PTH2R Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Depression, a prevalent neuropsychiatric disorder with unclear pathogenesis, involves dysfunctional adenylyl cyclase 8 (Adcy8) as a key risk factor. Chronic stress selectively reduces Adcy8 expression in the dorsal CA1 (dCA1) neurons. Depletion of Adcy8 in dCA1 excitatory neurons induces depressive‐like behaviors by impairing neuronal excitability and ...

Can edge AI mitigate environmental effects on camera trap performance?

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin
Abiotic and biotic conditions can affect camera trap performance, and failure to account for environmental factors can bias wildlife research and management inferences modeled from camera trap data. We investigated whether a camera trap enabled with edge

MGM as a Large‐Scale Pretrained Foundation Model for Microbiome Analyses in Diverse Contexts

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present the Microbial General Model (MGM), a transformer‐based foundation model pretrained on over 260,000 microbiome samples. MGM learns contextualized microbial representations via self‐supervised language modeling, enabling robust transfer learning, cross‐regional generalization, keystone taxa discovery, and prompt‐guided generation of realistic,

Quantifying Additive Manufacturing Vapor Plumes Using Laser‐Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy, Synchrotron X‐Ray Radiography and Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a novel in situ laser‐induced breakdown spectroscopy system for monitoring metal vapors produced by the intense laser‐metal interactions in laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing and laser welding. The insights from this new technique reveal changes in alloy compositions and provide the first in situ validation of multi ...

Optimal compromise between incompatible conditional probability distributions, with application to Objective Bayesian Kriging

open access: yes, 2018
Models are often defined through conditional rather than joint distributions, but it can be difficult to check whether the conditional distributions are compatible, i.e. whether there exists a joint probability distribution which generates them.

Initial Distance‐Dependent Mean Force Drives Synaptic Vesicle Motion Toward Fusion Sites in Stimulated Hippocampal Neurons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Synaptic vesicle (SV) motion and exocytosis dynamics in the presynaptic terminals of live neurons are intimately linked to synaptic transmission during neuronal activity. In this work, it is revealed that, during electrical stimulation, SVs located farther from their fusion sites exhibit greater straightness and experience larger mean forces directed ...

Geometry and Expressive Power of Conditional Restricted Boltzmann Machines

open access: yes, 2015
Conditional restricted Boltzmann machines are undirected stochastic neural networks with a layer of input and output units connected bipartitely to a layer of hidden units.

Meta‐GWAS of Pig Semen Quality Traits Reveals Conserved Genes Regulating Mammalian Fertility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study incorporated 14 210 individuals to perform a GWAS meta‐analysis of six semen quality traits. The GWAS meta‐analysis identifies 234 GWAS loci associated with semen quality traits. The incorporation with a functional genomics resource explains potential genetic regulation of ∼40% GWAS signals underlying semen quality traits.

A rapid conditional enumeration haplotyping method in pedigrees

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution, 2008
Haplotyping in pedigrees provides valuable information for genetic studies (e.g., linkage analysis and association study). In order to identify a set of haplotype configurations with the highest likelihoods for a large pedigree with a large number of ...
