Evaluation of in vitro toxicity of common phytochemicals included in weight loss supplements using 1H NMR spectroscopy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the toxicity of 12 active compounds commonly found in herbal weight loss supplements (WLS) using human liver and colon cell models. Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate was the only compound showing significant toxicity. Metabolic profiling revealed protein degradation, disrupted energy and lipid metabolism suggesting that the inclusion of EGCG ...

Regional association analysis-based fine mapping of three clustered QTL for verticillium wilt resistance in cotton (G. hirsutum. L)

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2017
Background Verticillium wilt is one of the most destructive diseases affecting global cotton production. The most effective way to control wilt disease has been the development of new cotton varieties that are resistant to VW.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Public confidence in Ireland’s Health Service Executive, Mid-West region: Findings from a 2024 regional survey

open access: yesBMC Health Services Research
Background Public confidence is a cornerstone of effective healthcare delivery and the legitimacy of healthcare reform. In Ireland’s Health Service Executive (HSE) Mid-West (MW), Regional Health Area (RHA) E, ongoing concerns about access to care at ...

A stochastic approach to estimate distribution grid state with confidence regions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
Measurement equipment located in electrical distribution grids, as power-quality measurement devices, substation meters, or customer smart meters do not provide phasor measurements due to the lack of high resolution time synchronization.

Tumor‐stromal crosstalk and macrophage enrichment are associated with chemotherapy response in bladder cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemoresistance in bladder cancer: Macrophage recruitment associated with CXCL1, CXCL5 and CXCL8 expression is characteristic of Gemcitabine/Cisplatin (Gem/Cis) Non‐Responder tumors (right side) while Responder tumors did not show substantial tumor‐stromal crosstalk (left side). All biological icons are attributed to Bioicons: carcinoma, cancerous‐cell‐

Confidence intervals for partially identified parameters [PDF]

open access: yes
In the last decade a growing body of research has studied inference on partially identified parameters (e.g., Manski, 1990, 2003). In many cases where the parameter of interest is realvalued, the identification region is an interval whose lower and upper

Meta‐analysis fails to show any correlation between protein abundance and ubiquitination changes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We analyzed over 50 published proteomics datasets to explore the relationship between protein levels and ubiquitination changes across multiple experimental conditions and biological systems. Although ubiquitination is often associated with protein degradation, our analysis shows that changes in ubiquitination do not globally correlate with changes in ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Inference on the Parameters of the Weibull Distribution Using Records [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The Weibull distribution is a very applicable model for the lifetime data. In this paper, we have investigated inference on the parameters of Weibull distribution based on record values.
