Confinement loss in highly nonlinear holey optical fibres

Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibit, 2002
In conclusion, we have applied the multipole approach to holey optical fibres with cladding features of the order of the wavelength of light guided in the structure. By applying this method to real structures, we find that it is a useful tool for predicting the magnitude of the confinement loss in single-material fibres, a loss mechanism that has been ...

I.H.P. SAW Transverse Edge Design for Energy Confinement with Suppressed Scattering Loss and Transverse Mode

IUS, 2021
Due to dispersion characteristic of I.H.P. SAW devices, existing transverse edge designs cannot provide broadband energy confinement with scattering loss suppression.

Simple evaluation of confinement losses in holey fibers

Optics Communications, 2005
An easy-to-evaluate method is described for the prediction of confinement losses in a photonic crystal fiber with a triangular air-hole lattice, also called a holey fiber (HF). First, a HF with a finite number of holes is replaced by a doubly clad fiber with a depressed-index inner cladding and then, a simple expression for leakage losses in the doubly

Effect of tube wall thickness on the confinement loss, power fraction and bandwidth of terahertz negative curvature fibers

Optik (Stuttgart), 2019
We treat numerical simulations to investigate how the tube wall thickness affects the confinement loss, power fraction ratio and bandwidth of terahertz (THz) negative curvature fibers at the frequency of 2.52 THz.

All-circular hole microstructured fiber with high birefringence and low confinement loss.

Applied Optics, 2019
An air-silica microstructure optical fiber of ultrahigh birefringence of the order ∼10-2 and low confinement loss is proposed. The birefringence is achieved by axial anisotropy introduced in the fiber geometry by the preferred arrangement of circular air

Modeling Path Loss in Confined Animal Feeding Operations

2008 Providence, Rhode Island, June 29 - July 2, 2008, 2008
Wireless sensor networking technology has great potential to advance monitoring of animal environments. Recent applications are very limited due to a lack in understanding of the performance of wireless sensors in large-scale, concentrated, and confined animal feeding operations.

Confinement losses in air-guiding photonic bandgap fibers

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2003
The wavelength dependence and the structural dependence of confinement losses in air-guiding photonic bandgap fibers (PBGFs) are, for the first time, investigated by using a full-vector finite element method. It is confirmed from computed results that one of the main causes of transmission losses in air-guiding PBGFs is the confinement loss and that ...

Measurement of optical loss in oxide-confined VCSELs

IEEE Photonics Conference 2012, 2012
Cold-cavity spectral characteristics are used to extract the size dependent optical loss for small diameter oxide-confined VCSELs. For aperture diameters ≤ 2 µm, the oxide scattering loss can be as large as 10 cm−1.

A low confinement loss double-photonic crystal fibre over 850 nm bandwidth with 26 orbital angular momentum modes transmission

Journal of Modern Optics, 2018
In this paper, a new double-photonic crystal fibre (D-PCF) is proposed and numerically investigated, result shows that can support angular momentum (OAM) mode transmission up to 26.
