Static and dynamic mechanical responses of organic shales under combined temperature and confining pressure conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
IntroductionRocks are subjected to pressure and temperature underground. In situ mechanical properties of organic shales are of principal importance in unconventional reservoir exploration and production, CO2 sequestration, and geothermal energy ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Experimental investigation of the acoustic emission characteristics and failure modes of triaxial unloading confining pressure in deep limestone

open access: yes工程科学学报
To clarify the mechanical destabilization and fracturing characteristics of deep limestone subjected to high-confining-pressure unloading, a series of triaxial tests with synchronous acoustic-emission (AE) monitoring was performed on standard limestone ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Research on acoustic emission characteristics and mechanical properties of shale under uniaxial and conventional triaxial compression

open access: yesScientific Reports
In order to analyze the acoustic emission (AE) characteristics and mechanical properties of muddy shale under different stress conditions, uniaxial and conventional triaxial compression tests and AE tests were carried out through the MTS815 electro ...

Anisotropic Damage to Hard Brittle Shale with Stress and Hydration Coupling

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Acoustic-wave velocities of shale rocks with different coring angles were tested by an acoustic-emission experiment under different confining pressures and soaking time of drilling fluid.

Pressure-confined Lyman-alpha clouds

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1989
Results are presented of numerical models of pressure-confined spherical gas clouds which produce absorption resembling the low to intermediate atomic column density lines found in high-redshift QSO spectra. One-dimensional hydrodynamical models including electron conduction are described, and the rate equations are solved to find ionization and ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...
