QUANTITATIVE CONFOCAL LASER SCANNING MICROSCOPY

open access: yesImage Analysis and Stereology, 2011
This paper discusses recent advances in confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) for imaging of 3D structure as well as quantitative characterization of biomolecular interactions and diffusion behaviour by means of one- and two-photon excitation.

Three-Dimensional Imaging by Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy(CLSM).

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Science, 2001
The recent development of optical microscopy has brought about a more refined and sophisticated apparatus, such as a confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), which was originally described by Minsky (1957), and ever since has been applied to the field of medical biology. In early experiments, only fluorescent signals were detectable by CLSM. However,

Curcumin Mitigates Immune-Induced Epithelial Barrier Dysfunction by Campylobacter jejuni [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Campylobacter jejuni (C. jejuni) is the most common cause of foodborne gastroenteritis worldwide. The bacteria induce diarrhea and inflammation by invading the intestinal epithelium. Curcumin is a natural polyphenol from turmeric rhizome of Curcuma longa,

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Bacteria (E. coli) take up ultrasmall gold nanoparticles (2 nm) as shown by different optical microscopic techniques (CLSM, SIM, STORM)

open access: yesNano Select, 2022
The uptake of fluorescently labeled ultrasmall gold nanoparticles (2 nm) by Gram‐negative Escherichia coli bacteria occurs within 1–3 hours. This was demonstrated by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), structured illumination microscopy (SIM ...

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

DNA builds and strengthens the extracellular matrix in Myxococcus xanthus biofilms by interacting with exopolysaccharides. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
One intriguing discovery in modern microbiology is the extensive presence of extracellular DNA (eDNA) within biofilms of various bacterial species. Although several biological functions have been suggested for eDNA, including involvement in biofilm ...

Hydrogen-bonded multilayer thin films and capsules based on poly(2-n-propyl-2-oxazoline) and tannic acid : investigation on intermolecular forces, stability, and permeability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In recent years, hydrogen-bonded multilayer thin films and capsules based on neutral and nontoxic building blocks have been receiving interest for the design of stimuli-responsive drug delivery systems and for the preparation of thin-film coatings ...

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.
