Chain-length-dependent adsorption of extracellular DNA on biochar: Behaviors, mechanisms, and structural Stability

open access: yesWater Research X
The environmental fate of extracellular DNA is significantly influenced by its interaction with widely used biochar. However, a systematic understanding of how DNA chain length and biochar properties jointly govern the adsorption process, mechanism, and ...

Study of the electrochemical behaviors of ion-binding to calmodulin

open access: yesJournal of Hebei University of Science and Technology, 2017
In order to research the competitive binding with CaM between metal ions and Ca2+, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) of ion (such as Ca2+,Cd2+,Al3+,Fe ...

The envenomation of general physiology throughout the last century. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Toxins are the poisonous products of organisms. Toxins serve vital defensive and offensive functions for those that harbor them: stinging scorpions, pesticidal plants, sanguinary snakes, fearless frogs, sliming snails, noxious newts, and smarting spiders.

Conformational Changes in Concanavalin A

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1971
Abstract The circular dichroic spectrum of homogeneous concanavalin A shows changes in the near ultraviolet upon specific binding of α-methyl-d-mannoside. The far ultraviolet spectrum shows no evidence of α helical structure but most closely resembles the spectrum of the model for type II-β structure, poly-S-carboxymethyl-l-cysteine.

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...

Directional, Low‐Energy Driven Thermal Actuating Bilayer Enabled by Coordinated Submolecular Switching

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2021
The authors reveal a thermal actuating bilayer that undergoes reversible deformation in response to low‐energy thermal stimuli, for example, a few degrees of temperature increase.

DNA unwinding heterogeneity by RecBCD results from static molecules able to equilibrate. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Single-molecule studies can overcome the complications of asynchrony and ensemble-averaging in bulk-phase measurements, provide mechanistic insights into molecular activities, and reveal interesting variations between individual molecules.

Structure of FcRY, an avian immunoglobulin receptor related to mammalian mannose receptors, and its complex with IgY [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Fc receptors transport maternal antibodies across epithelial cell barriers to passively immunize newborns. FcRY, the functional counterpart of mammalian FcRn (a major histocompatibility complex homolog), transfers IgY across the avian yolk sac, and ...

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...
