Larval morphology and life history of Ascalaphus dicax Walker, 1853 (Neuroptera: Myrmeleontidae, Ascalaphinae)

open access: yesFragmenta entomologica, 2021
The larvae of Ascalaphus dicax are redescribed based on specimens reared under laboratory conditions. The third instar larva of this species resembles in overall morphology the congener A.

A new Culicoides (Diptera:Ceratopogonidae) of the subgenus Diphaomyia from Peru

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2005
A new species of Culicoides of the subgenus Diphaomyia, Culicoides jurbergi Felippe-Bauer, is described and illustrated based on female specimens collected biting man and with light traps in Peruvian Amazonia.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

The complete mitochondrial genome of the critically endangered Lesser Antillean iguana (Iguana delicatissima; Squamata: Iguanidae)

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2019
The Lesser Antillean iguana, Iguana delicatissima Laurenti 1768, is one of the most endangered vertebrate taxa in the West Indies. This species faces significant threats, including introgressive hybridization with the introduced congener Iguana iguana ...

PASSIVE AIR SAMPLING SURVEY OF POLYBROMINATED DIPHENYL ETHER IN PRIVATE CARS: IMPLICATIONS FOR SOURCES AND HUMAN EXPOSURE [PDF]

open access: yes
In order to characterize polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) contamination in vehicle interiors, airborne concentrations of polybrominated diphenyl ethers were investigated using PUF disk passive air samplers in 25 private cars.
