Octanol/Water Partitioning Coefficients of PCB Mixtures for Environmental Fate and Transport [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are a human and environmental toxin introduced to the environment from the 1920’s to the 1970’s from manufacturing items such as transformers and capacitors.

A new genus of Prioninae (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Neoma, a new genus of Cerambycidae (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae: Prioninae: Macrotomini) is described for Mallodonopsis corrosus Bates, 1879, compared to related genera (Aplagiognathus Thomson, 1861; Archodontes Lameere, 1903; and Mallodonopsis Thomson ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

The hydrochloride salt of l-ecgonine, a congener of cocaine

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2008
The title compound, (1R,2R,3S,5S,8S)-3-hydroxy-8-methyl-8-azoniabicyclo[3.2.1]octane-2-carboxylic acid chloride, C9H16NO3+·Cl−, is both a metabolite and a precursor of the tropane alkaloid l-cocaine.

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

Abundance and Seasonal Activity of Weevils (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in a Raspberry Plantation and Adjacent Sites in Southern Quebec (Canada). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In a raspberry plantation and adjacent sites in southern Quebec, we collected weevils with unbaited pitfall traps and flight interception traps from early May througb late October in 1987-1989. We captured a total of 1592 weevils representing 65 species,

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

Phylogenetic relationships of Indian caecilians (Amphibia: Gymnophiona) inferred from mitochondrial rRNA gene sequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
India has a diverse caecilian fauna, including representatives of three of the six currently recognized families, the Caeciliidae, Ichthyophiidae, the endemic Uraeotyphlidae, but previous molecular phylogenetic studies of caecilians have not included ...
