Conidiation in Neurospora crassa: vegetative reproduction by a model fungus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Asexual development, conidiation, in the filamentous fungus Neurospora crassa is a simple developmental process that starts with the growth of aerial hyphae.

Heterogeneity in liquid shaken cultures of Aspergillus niger inoculated with melanised conidia or conidia of pigmentation mutants

open access: yesStudies in Mycology, 2013
Black pigmented conidia of Aspergillus niger give rise to micro-colonies when incubated in liquid shaken medium. These micro-colonies are heterogeneous with respect to gene expression and size. We here studied the biophysical properties of the conidia of a control strain and of strains in which the fwnA, olvA or brnA gene is inactivated.

Effect of Endophytic Fungi on Thrips tabaci Development and Population Dynamics

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Endophytic fungi are promising biocontrol agents because they colonise healthy plant tissues asymptomatically while inducing systemic resistance that negatively affects herbivorous insects. We investigated whether treatments with the endophytes Trichoderma harzianum and Beauveria bassiana in two onion cultivars (Allium cepa L.; Sturon and Red ...

Characterization of Extracellular Vesicles Produced by Aspergillus fumigatus Protoplasts

open access: yesmSphere, 2020
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are membranous compartments produced by yeast and mycelial forms of several fungal species. One of the difficulties in perceiving the role of EVs during the fungal life, and particularly in cell wall biogenesis, is caused by ...

Causes of Quality Loss of Cut Flowers - A Critical Analysis of Post-Harvest Treatments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Temperature is one of the most important factors in the postharvest phase to control quality losses, yet temperature is still poorly managed, partly because its effects are not always understood well.

Divergent roles of ent‐kaurene oxidase paralogs in rice momilactone biosynthesis

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Rice contains a five‐gene tandem array of genes encoding members of the ent‐kaurene oxidase (KO) family, with OsKOL4 and OsKOL5 playing divergent roles in momilactone metabolism, but both acting in the production of antifungal and antibacterial phytoalexins, which are important for disease resistance.

Characterisation of Alternaria radicina isolates and assessment of resistance in carrot (Daucus carota L.)

open access: yesJournal für Kulturpflanzen, 2017
Alternaria radicina is a fungal pathogen that causes the black rot disease of carrot. Four Alternaria spp. isolates associated with black rot symptoms collected from carrot (Daucus carota) and parsley (Petroselinum crispum) were characterised and ...

CYP52X1, representing new cytochrome P450 subfamily, displays fatty acid hydroxylase activity and contributes to virulence and growth on insect cuticular substrates in entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Infection of insects by the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana proceeds via attachment and penetration of the host cuticle. The outermost epicuticular layer or waxy layer of the insect represents a structure rich in lipids including abundant ...

Cellular immune response of Amblyomma sculptum and Amblyomma americanum to entomopathogenic fungi: Implications for biological tick control

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Amblyomma sculptum showed a plasmatocyte‐dominant haemocyte profile. Beauveria bassiana increased plasmatocytes and reduced granulocytes, whereas Metarhizium robertsii did not cause significant changes. Amblyomma americanum showed a granulocyte‐dominant haemocyte profile. Beauveria bassiana reduced total haemocytes and granulocytes. B.

Cellular and extracellular siderophores of Aspergillus nidulans and Penicillium chrysogenum [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
Aspergillus nidulans and Penicillium chrysogenum produce specific cellular siderophores in addition to the well-known siderophores of the culture medium.
