Characterization and comparative analysis of antibiotic resistance plasmids isolated from a wastewater treatment plant.

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2014
A wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is an environment high in nutrient concentration with diverse bacterial populations and can provide an ideal environment for the proliferation of mobile elements such as plasmids.

Cell density–dependent nuclear‐cytoplasmic shuttling of SETDB1 integrates with Hippo signaling to regulate YAP1‐mediated transcription

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At low cell density, SETDB1 and YAP1 accumulate in the nucleus. As cell density increases, the Hippo pathway is gradually activated, and SETDB1 is associated with increased YAP1 phosphorylation. At high cell density, phosphorylated YAP1 is sequestered in the cytoplasm, while SETDB1 becomes polyubiquitinated and degraded by the ubiquitin–proteasome ...

Conjugal Transfer of Genetic Material in Lactococci: A Review

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1989
Abstract The ability to mediate conjugal transfer of DNA is widespread among the lactococci. In the 9 yr since conjugation was first demonstrated in lactococci, a wide variety of phenotypes have been shown to be conjugally transferred. Recently, conjugation was used in constructing lactococcal strains with increased industrial utility.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

β‐TrCP overexpression enhances cisplatin sensitivity by depleting BRCA1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low levels of β‐TrCP (Panel A) allow the accumulation of BRCA1 and CtIP, which facilitate the repair of cisplatin‐induced DNA damage via homologous recombination (HR) and promote tumor cell survival. In contrast, high β‐TrCP expression (Panel B) leads to BRCA1 and CtIP degradation, impairing HR repair, resulting in persistent DNA damage and apoptosis ...

Bacterial conjugation in the ruminant pathogen Mycoplasma agalactiae is influenced by eukaryotic host factors

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology
Horizontal gene transfer (HGT) plays a pivotal role in the evolution and adaptation of genome-reduced mycoplasmas. The conjugative properties of these organisms are key in this phenomenon but are largely understudied, particularly in vivo. In the present

Improving acarbose production and eliminating the by-product component C with an efficient genetic manipulation system of Actinoplanes sp. SE50/110

open access: yesSynthetic and Systems Biotechnology, 2017
The α-glucosidase inhibitor acarbose is commercially produced by Actinoplanes sp. and used as a potent drug in the treatment of type-2 diabetes. In order to improve the yield of acarbose, an efficient genetic manipulation system for Actinoplanes sp.

Nicotinamide N‐methyltransferase promotes drug resistance in lung cancer, as revealed by nascent proteomic profiling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
AZD9291 has shown promise in targeted cancer therapy but is limited by resistance. In this study, we employed metabolic labeling and LC–MS/MS to profile time‐resolved nascent protein perturbations, allowing dynamic tracking of drug‐responsive proteins. We demonstrated that increased NNMT expression is associated with drug resistance, highlighting NNMT ...

Horizontal Gene Transfer and Its Association with Antibiotic Resistance in the Genus Aeromonas spp.

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2019
The evolution of multidrug resistant bacteria to the most diverse antimicrobials known so far pose a serious problem to global public health. Currently, microorganisms that develop resistant phenotypes to multiple drugs are associated with high morbidity

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.
