WHAT IS A NONMONOTONIC CONSEQUENCE RELATION?

Fundamenta Informaticae, 1994
This paper is an attempt to articulate and respond to a philosophical problem about the general idea of a nonmonotonic consequence relation. The problem concerns the clarification of the target notion that various particular nonmonotonic theories, both model-theoretic and proof- theoretic, are attempting to explicate.

On the Relation Between Default and Modal Consequence Relations

1994
The notion of a default consequence relation is introduced as a generalization of both default and modal formalizations of nonmonotonic reasoning. It is used to study a general problem of correspondence between these two formalisms. As is shown, in many cases each of them can be translated into the other.

On Nonmonotonic Consequence Relations

Logica Universalis, 2021
We discuss nonmonotonic reasoning in terms of consequence relations and corresponding operators. Based on the matrix consequence that gives the monotonic case, we define a restricted matrix consequence that illustrates the nonmonotonic case. The latter is a generalization of the relation of logical friendliness introduced by D. Makinson.

Judgment and consequence relations

Journal of Applied Non-Classical Logics, 2010
In this paper I argue that a variety of consequence relations can be subsumed under a common core. The reduction proceeds by taking the unconditional consequence, or judgment, as basic and deriving the conditional consequence via a uniform abstraction scheme.
