Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

The role of intertidal seagrass Zostera spp. in sediment deposition and coastal stability in the Tay Estuary, Scotland

open access: yes, 2012
The Tay estuary is situated on the east coast of Scotland. The estuary is dominated by sediment biotopes, including mudflats which support sparse beds of two nationally scarce seagrass species, Zostera marina var. angustfolia (Hornem.) and Z.

Plastome phylogenomics unravels the evolutionary relationships and biogeographic history of Chloranthaceae

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background Chloranthaceae is a pantropical family of flowering plants distributed mainly across Central and South America, East Asia, and the Pacific, encompassing approximately 73 species belonging to four extant genera—Ascarina, Chloranthus, Hedyosmum,

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

South African grassland ecology and its restoration

open access: yes, 2013
The aim of this study is to investigate how human related disturbances affect mesic grasslands. I identified what was lost from the system after a disturbance and what biological constraints ecologists and managers will face when approaching their ...

Elevated Altitude and Limestone Soil Promoted Fungal Diversity in Rhizosphere Soil of Sophora japonica

open access: yesHorticulturae
Soil microorganisms play a crucial role in mediating material transformation and nutrient cycling. However, little attention has been paid to the relationships between microbial communities and altitude and lithology in karst regions. Sophora japonica cv.

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Are current ecological restoration practices capturing natural levels of genetic diversity? A New Zealand case study using AFLP and ISSR data from mahoe (Melicytus ramiflorus)

open access: yes, 2015
Sourcing plant species of local provenance (eco-sourcing) has become standard practice in plant community restoration projects. Along with established ecological restoration practices, knowledge of genetic variation in existing and restored forest ...

A Framework to Optimize Biodiversity Restoration Efforts Based on Habitat Amount and Landscape Connectivity

open access: yes, 2013
The effectiveness of ecological restoration actions toward biodiversity conservation depends on both local and landscape constraints. Extensive information on local constraints is already available, but few studies consider the landscape context when ...

Soil Quality Assessment of Five Typical Forest Stands in the Dianchi Lake Basin based on MDS

open access: yesShuitu Baochi Xuebao
[Objective] Soil quality is a critical indicator of ecosystem health and sustainable land management. [Methods] Key soil quality indicators (e.g., organic matter, total nitrogen, available nitrogen, capillary porosity, and pH) were identified through ...
