Does Treatment Modality Affect Clinical Results of Calcaneal Fractures: A Retrospective Comparative Study

open access: yesActa Medica Alanya, 2017
Aim: To determine if there is any difference in functional results between surgical and conservative treatments in displaced intra-articular fractures of the calcaneum.

Islamophobia in an American studies approach as seen in Donald Trump’s speech documentary videos

open access: yesEdulite: Journal of English Education, Literature, and Culture, 2022
Donald Trump’s rhetoric in his campaign was markedly different, his speeches on Islamophobia and anti-immigrant rhetoric became a big issue. Trump used the rhetoric of fear to induce his followers against Muslims and immigrants by linking to both groups ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

The ubiquity of conservative translations

open access: yes, 2012
We study the notion of conservative translation between logics introduced by Feitosa and D'Ottaviano. We show that classical propositional logic (CPC) is universal in the sense that every finitary consequence relation over a countable set of formulas can

Conservative and non-conservative methods based on hermite weighted essentially-non-oscillatory reconstruction for Vlasov equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We introduce a WENO reconstruction based on Hermite interpolation both for semi-Lagrangian and finite difference methods. This WENO reconstruction technique allows to control spurious oscillations.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Additional treatment after primary conservative treatment in patients with chronic subdural hematoma—A retrospective study

open access: yesBrain and Behavior
Objective Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a common neurological condition and is typically treated with burr hole craniostomy. Nevertheless, conservative treatment may lead to spontaneous hematoma resolution in some patients.

Spectral Theory of Time Dispersive and Dissipative Systems

open access: yes, 2004
We study linear time dispersive and dissipative systems. Very often such systems are not conservative and the standard spectral theory can not be applied.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.
