Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

The Effect of Fiber Orientation and Stress Ratio on the Crack Growth Behavior of Fiber Metal Laminates (FMLs)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Technology, 2018
The crack growth behavior of fiber metal laminates (FMLs) with fiber orientations of 90°/0° and 45°/45° to load direction was investigated with varying stress ratios of the cyclic constant load.

The constant stress behavior of polystyrene-low density polyethylene blends

open access: yes, 1982
The constant-stress behaviour of low-density polyethylene toughened polystyrene has been analysed. It was found that the initial strain-time behaviour during constant-stress tensile tests is well described by a simple model that predicts a ...

Creep Rupture Properties of Tin Tested at Constant Stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 1954
This investigation was initiated to study the creep characteristics of a simple, relatively pure, material at constant stress as compared to that tested at constant load. Tin was selected for the investigation. A series of creep tests were run to rupture

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Resource-efficient structural analysis: A volumetric finite element approach for eco-friendly engineering [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
The volumetric triangular prism finite element based on piecewise constant approximations of stresses is presented. The stress fields are continuous along finite element boundaries and discontinuous inside ones.

On the shakedown analysis of welded pipes

open access: yes, 2011
This paper presents the shakedown analysis of welded pipes subjected to a constant internal pressure and a varying thermal load. The Linear Matching Method (LMM) is applied to investigate the upper and lower bound shakedown limits of the pipes ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Study on the stress path dependency of collapse behavior of Gorgan loess implementing unsaturated oedometer devices

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2016
Collapsible soils such as loess are particular types of problematic soils, whose collapse potential have caused severe damages to the buildings and structures.
