Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Linear Optimal Signal Designs for Multi-Color MISO-VLC Systems Adapted to CCT Requirement

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
In visible light communications (VLC), multi-color light emitting diodes (LEDs) have higher modulation bandwidth and better chromatic property compared with traditional phosphor-converted LEDs. For multi-color multi-input single-output (MISO) VLC systems,

Constellation design for channels affected by phase noise [PDF]

open access: yes2013 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC), 2013
In this paper we optimize constellation sets to be used for channels affected by phase noise. The main objective is to maximize the achievable mutual information of the constellation under a given power constraint. The mutual information and pragmatic mutual information of a given constellation is calculated approximately assuming that both the channel

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Tundra Constellation Design and Stationkeeping

open access: yesJournal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 2005
Constellations of satellites in Tundra orbits provide an innovative alternative to the increasingly crowded geostationary orbit belt. The Tundra constellation uses three or more spacecraft in inclined geosynchronous orbits. The nominal orbit design for the constellation must minimize any undesirable perturbation effects to provide affordable ...

Optimal Design of Satellite Constellation Korean Peninsula Regions [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2008
Designing satellite constellations providing partial coverage of certain regions becomes more important as small low-altitude satellites receives an increasing attention due to its cost-effectiveness analysis.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
