Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

The Establishment of a Rock Creep Model by Using Creep Bodies via an Improved Gene Expression Programming Algorithm

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Rock creep commonly appears in rock mass engineering, and it should be paid appropriate attention. In this paper, studies on creep constitutive models of rocks were reviewed, and it was found that the types of creep constitutive models can generally be ...

Formulation method of ball indentation process for ultra-thin elastic body with mechanics poisson effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A new theoretical method for determining the mechanics properties of ultra-thin elastic materials is proposed in this paper. This method is based on a full contact model and Poisson’s effect. This study consisted of three steps.

Overview of molecular signatures of senescence and associated resources: pros and cons

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cells can enter a stress response state termed cellular senescence that is involved in various diseases and aging. Detecting these cells is challenging due to the lack of universal biomarkers. This review presents the current state of senescence identification, from biomarkers to molecular signatures, compares tools and approaches, and highlights ...

ATG4B is required for mTORC1‐mediated anabolic activity and is associated with clinical outcomes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The relationship between anabolic and catabolic processes governing lung cancer cell growth is nuanced. We show that ATG4B, an autophagy regulator, is elevated in lung cancer and that high ATG4B is associated with worse patient outcomes. Targeting ATG4B in cells reduces growth, protein synthesis, and mTORC1 activity, demonstrating a new relationship ...

ATP13A2 is involved in intracellular polyamine transport in lung epithelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Spermidine transport in lung epithelial cells involves the polyamine transporter ATP13A2. Cell proliferation is associated with the upregulation of ATP13A2. Polyamines are present in all living cells and are implicated in various crucial cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy.

FGFR Like1 drives esophageal cancer progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and notch signalling: insights from clinical data and next‐generation sequencing analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.

Chip Formation Mechanisms When Cutting Amorphous Alloy with Cubic Boron Nitride Tools Based on Constitutive Equation Parameter Optimisation

open access: yesMicromachines
Owing to potential inaccuracies in the current stress–strain curve used for constructing the Johnson–Cook (JC) constitutive model of amorphous alloys, the parameters of the JC constitutive equation were derived using Oxley’s cutting theory, negative ...
