Breaking Extrapolation Barriers: Dual Innovations for Property and Component Design of Multi‐Component Alloy

open access: yesMaterials Genome Engineering Advances, EarlyView.
This study breaks extrapolation barriers in alloy design by merging symbolic regression with latent space sampling. The dual‐strategy framework enables accurate prediction of high‐hardness properties and navigates uncharted compositional spaces. The approach successfully designs novel high‐entropy alloys with hardness exceeding 863.5 HV, demonstrating ...

Extending the hyper‐logistic model to the random setting: New theoretical results with real‐world applications

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
We develop a full randomization of the classical hyper‐logistic growth model by obtaining closed‐form expressions for relevant quantities of interest, such as the first probability density function of its solution, the time until a given fixed population is reached, and the population at the inflection point.

Ephemeral resources promote adaptive sociality in wild guppies

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Sociality can facilitate the discovery of novel resources, yet it can also entail costs, including increased competition, aggression, sexual harassment and disease transmission. Selection should therefore favour social flexibility as a response to changes in resource conditions, allowing individuals to adjust their social associations optimally ...

Waves of range dynamics and gene flow characterize the biogeographic history of Litsea elongata, a dominant tree in East Asian evergreen broadleaved forests

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Evergreen broadleaved forests (EBLFs) represent an iconic vegetation type in subtropical montane East Asia, but they are experiencing intensifying anthropogenic pressure and increasing habitat fragmentation. Here, using a dominant and widespread tree species characteristic of East Asian EBLFs, we examine its phylogeographic history and evaluate what it

Supervised Protein Structure Classification Using Topological Persistence With DeltaFold

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Recent advances in protein structure prediction have considerably increased the number of available structures, underscoring the need for scalable and accurate methods to compare and classify this huge amount of data. Current approaches based on sequence alignment or structural superposition often lack sensitivity and/or are computationally ...

Constrained Markov Decision Processes

open access: yes, 1999
book turned out to be a rich and interesting constrained control problem in itself. The objectives were not always easy to quantify and many evident constraints came out, such as time and page limitations.
