Constraint-Based Computer-Aided Design

Journal of Computing and Information Science in Engineering, 2005
Computer-aided design (CAD) systems have become parametric, basing shape design on constraints and design feature operations. We review the development of constraint-based parametric CAD, explaining some of the foundational issues as well as giving an outlook on possible future directions of development.

Geometric Constraint Solving in Parametric Computer-Aided Design

Journal of Computing and Information Science in Engineering, 2011
With parametric computer-aided design (CAD) software, designers can create geometric models that are easily updated (within limits) by modifying the values of controlling parameters. These numeric and non-numeric parameters control the geometry in two ways: parametric operations and geometric constraint solving.

Expressing geometric constraints in the computer-aided design of layered housing.

Automation in Construction, 1997
This paper describes the experiences of a design office in automating the formulation and evaluation of geometrical constraints in the design of layered housing.

FLOWER - A System for Domain and Constraint Visualization in Computer-Aided Design

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1995
Abstract This paper explores visualization aids to an interactive intelligent design application. Visualization helps a designer explore data and information in order to gain greater understanding and insight into the design process. Several existing techniques taken from object-oriented expert systems, computer graphics and user interface ...

Algebraic geometry and group theory in geometric constraint satisfaction for computer-aided design and assembly planning

IIE Transactions, 1996
Mechanical design and assembly planning inherently involve geometric constraint satisfaction or scene feasibility (GCS/SF) problems. Such problems imply the satisfaction of proposed relations placed between undefined geometric entities in a given scenario.

Computer aided mixture design with specified property constraints

Computers & Chemical Engineering, 1992
Abstract This paper presents an algorithm that determines the identity and composition of solvent mixtures with desirable properties and also ranks the mixtures with respect to cost. This is done by integrating optimization algorithms with computer-aided mixture design (CAMD).

Computer Aided Stabilator Design Including Aeroelastic Constraints

Journal of Aircraft, 1971
A computerized direct optimization procedure has been developed to aid in the design of an aircraft all-moveable stabilator. The procedure systematically evaluates a set of design variables so that the near optimum stabilator is synthesized from input nondimensional geometry and material characteristics to satisfy design constraints of performance ...

Computer-aided design using the method of cut-joint kinematic constraints

Computer-Aided Design, 1996
A method for automatically altering the geometry of mechanical parts due to a change in design parameters is presented. The formulation for computing the effects of changes in design parameters of mechanical parts and mechanisms is based upon kinematic criteria adopted from mathematical formulations used in multibody dynamics analyses.
