An experimental painful peripheral neuropathy due to nerve constriction
Experimental Neurology, 1992A constriction injury to the sciatic nerve of the rat produces a painful peripheral neuropathy that is similar to the conditions seen in man. The pathology of the sciatic nerve in these animals was examined at 10 days postinjury, when the abnormal pain sensations are near maximal severity.

Constrictive pericarditis is the commonest cardiac complication of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Two percent of patients with RA develop significant clinical symptoms of pericarditis, which may not correlate with joint disease duration or severity. Symptoms are often vague and non-specific, which frequently delays the diagnosis and subsequent management ...

We studied the efficacy of mexiletine as a sodium channel blocker for neuropathic pain by investigating the effect of mexiletine on the pathological ectopic firing pattern in a chronic constriction nerve injury (CCI) model. The experiment was conducted with 60 male Wistar rats. The CCI model was created by loosely ligating the sciatic nerve.

The RNA binding protein HuR (Human antigen R) interacts with specific AU-rich domains in target mRNAs and is highly expressed in many cell types, including cardiomyocytes. However, the role of HuR in cardiac physiology is largely unknown. Our results show that HuR undergoes cytoplasmic translocation, indicative of its activation, in hypertrophic mouse ...

AbstractMelatonin, a circadian molecule secreted by the pineal gland, confers a protective role against cardiac hypertrophy induced by hyperthyroidism, chronic hypoxia, and isoproterenol. However, its role against pressure overload‐induced cardiac hypertrophy and the underlying mechanisms remains elusive.

[Clinical and pathological characteristics of constrictive pericarditis in China].
Zhonghua xin xue guan bing za zhi, 2009To summarize the clinical and pathological characteristics of constrictive pericarditis in China.Data from 150 patients with constrictive pericarditis who admitted to our hospital from 2000 to 2007 were retrospectively analyzed.Constriction pericarditis was detected by echocardiography in 149 out of 150 patients.
