Biventricular structural and functional responses to aortic constriction in a rabbit model of chronic right ventricular pressure overload

open access: yes, 2012
Objectives: Chronic right ventricular (RV) pressure overload results in pathologic RV hypertrophy and diminished RV function. Although aortic constriction has been shown to improve systolic function in acute RV failure, its effect on RV responses to ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Cisto pericárdico gigante: relato de caso Giant pericardial cyst: case report

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery, 2007
Os cistos pericárdicos são anomalias congênitas incomuns, sendo a maioria assintomática e diagnosticadas incidentalmente na radiografia de tórax. Os cistos gigantes são raros, havendo poucos relatos concernentes à sua história natural, apresentação ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

ROS-mediated bidirectional regulation of miRNA results in distinct pathologic heart conditions

open access: yes, 2015
Under distinct pathological heart conditions, the expression of a single miRNA can display completely opposite patterns. However, the mechanism underlying the bidirectional regulation of a single miRNA and the clinical implications of this regulation ...

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.
