A Rare Case of Carcinoid Constrictive Pericarditis

open access: yesJACC: Case Reports, 2020
We describe a case of atypical carcinoid heart disease. A 62-year-old woman with well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor metastatic to the liver and lymph nodes presented with recurrent unilateral pleural effusions and lower extremity edema ...

Aortic Stiffness Hysteresis in Isolated Mouse Aortic Segments Is Intensified by Contractile Stimuli, Attenuated by Age, and Reversed by Elastin Degradation

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2021
Aim: Cyclic stretch of vascular tissue at any given pressure reveals greater dimensions during unloading than during loading, which determines the cardiac beat-by-beat hysteresis loop on the pressure-diameter/volume relationship.

Ego Constriction [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Journal of Psychoanalysis, 2004
The terms ego constriction, ego inhibition, and ego restriction have not been clearly differentiated in their usage in the literature. In this paper a rationale for "ego constriction" as an entity distinct from both ego inhibition and ego restriction is given, despite its clear similarities to each.

Effusive Constrictive Pericarditis [PDF]

open access: yesCongestive Heart Failure, 2009
Effusive constrictive pericarditis (ECP) is a relatively infrequent pericardial condition. The diagnosis is typically made when symptoms and right heart pressure elevation persist despite drainage of pericardial effusion. Visceral and parietal pericardial stripping is an extensive procedure with significant morbidity and mortality but is widely ...

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Cis‐regulatory and long noncoding RNA alterations in breast cancer – current insights, biomarker utility, and the critical need for functional validation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The noncoding region of the genome plays a key role in regulating gene expression, and mutations within these regions are capable of altering it. Researchers have identified multiple functional noncoding mutations associated with increased cancer risk in the genome of breast cancer patients.

Perspectives in educating molecular pathologists on liquid biopsy: Toward integrative, equitable, and decentralized precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Liquid biopsy enables minimally invasive, real‐time molecular profiling through analysis of circulating biomarkers in biological fluids. This Perspective highlights the importance of training pathologists through integrative educational programs, such as the European Masters in Molecular Pathology, to ensure effective and equitable implementation of ...

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.
