Constructal design applied to the optimization of heat transfer in a solid conducting wall

open access: yesVetor, 2010
The present paper applies Constructal Design to optimize the geometry of a Yshaped negative fin that intrudes a solid conducting wall with heat generation. The main goal is the minimization of the thermal global resistance between the solid wall and the

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Constructal Design and Friction Stir Processing Synergy: Towards Next-Generation High-Efficiency Heat Sinks

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The continuous increase in electronic power densities demands thermal management solutions that surpass the conventional heat sink designs. This study introduces a synergistic approach that combines constructal design principles with Friction Stir ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

On the construction of handcuffed designs

open access: yesJournal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A, 1974
AbstractA handcuffed design with parameters ν, k, λ consists of a set of ordered k-subsets of a v-set, called handcuffed blocks; in a block (a1, a2, ak) each element is assumed to be “handcuffed” to its neighbors. A block, therefore, contains k − 1 handcuffed pairs, the pairs being considered unordered.

The Complexity of Constructing Gerechte Designs [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2009
Gerechte designs are a specialisation of latin squares. A gerechte design is an $n\times n$ array containing the symbols $\{1,\dots,n\}$, together with a partition of the cells of the array into $n$ regions of $n$ cells each. The entries in the cells are required to be such that each row, column and region contains each symbol exactly once.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

A constructal theory framework for optimizing HRSG design: Enhancing thermal performance and cost-effectiveness

open access: yesResults in Engineering
This study utilizes Constructal Theory and genetic algorithms to formulate a comprehensive optimization framework for selecting the appropriate type of Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) in combined cycle power plants.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
