Rational Tuning of Hygroscopic Oscillation of Stacked Nanoflake Assemblies for Continuous Ambient Energy Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Stacked nanoflake assembly (SNA) membranes can oscillate autonomously, offering opportunities for soft actuation and energy harvesting. This work uncovers the physical mechanism behind the sustained oscillation of SNA membranes in gradient humidity and identifies three governing dimensionless parameters, enabling rational design for optimizing SNA ...

Static Electrification by Nonwetting Liquids. Contact Charging and Contact Angles

open access: yesLangmuir, 1995
A glass slide hydrophobized with dimethyldichlorosilane appears to be electrostatically charged when a nonwetting liquid recedes from its surface. The surface charge has negative polarity. The density of the charge which arises on retraction from water is 10 -4 C/m 2 . The half-life of the charge on the surface in air is 0.5 h.

Reactive Laser Additive Manufacturing of Hierarchically Structured Aerogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Reactive laser additive manufacturing transforms printing into a chemically active synthesis step. Salt‐enabled transient reaction environments drive in situ formation of hierarchically structured graphitic aerogels with microtubular and nanoscale features in seconds.

Charge control experiments on a CH-53E helicopter in a dusty environment [PDF]

open access: yes
Charge control tests were carried out on a ground based, Marine Corps helicopter to determine if control of the electric fields acting on the engine exhaust gases could be used to reduce the electrification of the helicopter when it operated in a dusty ...

Design of High‐Energy Anode for All‐Solid‐State Lithium Batteries–A Model with Borohydride‐Based Electrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study proposes a function‐sharing anode design to enable nonmetallic lithium insertion while maintaining intimate interfacial contact with the solid‐state electrolyte. A combination of lithium‐compatible and conformable borohydrides, highly conformable indium metal, less‐graphitized acetylene black, and a layer of highly graphitized massive ...

A Study of Contact Electrification Process on PVDF–Metal Interface: Effect of β Phase Composition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces
Recently, triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are getting considerable attention as an energy harvesting tool that can convert random mechanical energy into electricity due to the wide material selection, low cost, and easy fabrication.

Bioelectrical Interfaces Beyond Excitable Cells: Cancer, Aging, and Gene Expression Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The investigation of biological conductivity has evolved from its classical foundation based on ionic fluxes underpinning cardiac and neuronal excitability to a multifaceted regulator of cellular physiology. Traditional approaches for probing electrical events in living matter focused largely on action potentials recording.

A Combined Experimental and Theoretical Study on the Mechanisms Behind Tribocharging Phenomenon and the Influence of Triboemission

open access: yesTribology Online, 2019
This work describes recent research into the mechanisms behind tribocharging and the influence of triboemission. The term tribocharging is a type of contact-induced electrification and refers to the transfer of charge between rubbing components. The term
