Algebraic multigrid methods for constrained linear systems with applications to contact problems in solid mechanics [PDF]
AbstractThis paper develops a general framework for applying algebraic multigrid techniques to constrained systems of linear algebraic equations that arise in applications with discretized PDEs. We discuss constraint coarsening strategies for constructing multigrid coarse grid spaces and several classes of multigrid smoothers for these systems.

Investigation of the accuracy of Digital Image Correlation (DIC) in measuring full-field strain for timber materials [PDF]
As one of the most successful techniques in experimental mechanics, digital image correlation (DIC) has been widely used to measure the motion and deformation of solid materials, especially in situations where non-contact measurement is required.

A finite element procedure for the analysis of thermo-mechanical solids in contact [PDF]
Abstract We present a finite element procedure for the analysis of fully coupled thermo-elasto-plastic response of solids including contact conditions. The continuum mechanics formulation for the solid and contact conditions is summarized and effective finite element techniques for solution are given.

Inverse problems with the digital image correlation: approach and applications
A viable approach to solve inverse problems in elasticity is proposed. It is based on regression algorithms to estimate materials and/or loading parameters by fitting the experimentally-evaluated displacement field to representative analytical solutions.

Fluid flow at the interface between elastic solids with randomly rough surfaces [PDF]
I study fluid flow at the interface between elastic solids with randomly rough surfaces. I use the contact mechanics model of Persson to take into account the elastic interaction between the solid walls and the Bruggeman effective medium theory to ...

SHAPE OPTIMIZATION OF CONTACT PROBLEMS SUBJECT TO MULTIPLE LOAD CASES USING BI-DIRECTIONAL EVOLUTIONARY STRUCTURAL OPTIMIZATION [PDF]
Contact problems are one of widely used and important branches in solid mechanics. This paper aims at extending the bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization (BESO) algorithm for optimal contact shape design in structures under the multiple ...

Relationship between contact stiffness, contact depth, and mechanical properties for indentation in linear viscoelastic solids using axisymmetric indenters [PDF]
We derive a relationship between the initial unloading slope, contact depth, and the instantaneous relaxation modulus for indentation in linear viscoelastic solids by a rigid indenter with an arbitrary axisymmetric smooth profile.

Solid viscoelasticity in contact mechanics and elastohydrodynamic lubrication
Driven by the urgent need for transition to new sustainable technology in terms of use of resources and generated waste products, optimal efficiency is of crucial importance. Energy losses at any scale in machines of old (transitional) and new technology and processes need be minimized and performance and service life maximized.
