Advanced Numerical Methods in Computational Solid Mechanics
Efficient numerical solving of nonlinear solid mechanics problems is still a challenging issue which concerns various fields: nonlinear behavior, micromechanics, contact mechanics, damage, crack propagation, rupture, etc [...

Inverse problems with the digital image correlation: approach and applications
A viable approach to solve inverse problems in elasticity is proposed. It is based on regression algorithms to estimate materials and/or loading parameters by fitting the experimentally-evaluated displacement field to representative analytical solutions.

Extension of the natural element method to surface tension and wettability for the simulation of polymer flows at the micro and nano scales [PDF]
The natural element method is used to simulate two-dimensional viscous flows where interfacial effects must be taken into account, for application to polymer melts at the micro and nano scales.

Variational Time Integrators in Computational Solid Mechanics [PDF]
This thesis develops the theory and implementation of variational integrators for computational solid mechanics problems, and to some extent, for fluid mechanics problems as well.

Dissipation of vibration in rough contact [PDF]
The relationship which links the normal vibration occurring during the sliding of rough surfaces and the nominal contact area is investigated. Two regimes are found.

Strain-Dependent Solid Surface Stress and the Stiffness of Soft Contacts
Surface stresses have recently emerged as a key player in the mechanics of highly compliant solids. The classic theories of contact mechanics describe adhesion with a compliant substrate as a competition between surface energies driving deformation to ...

SHAPE OPTIMIZATION OF CONTACT PROBLEMS SUBJECT TO MULTIPLE LOAD CASES USING BI-DIRECTIONAL EVOLUTIONARY STRUCTURAL OPTIMIZATION [PDF]
Contact problems are one of widely used and important branches in solid mechanics. This paper aims at extending the bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization (BESO) algorithm for optimal contact shape design in structures under the multiple ...

Evaluation of the real contact area in three-body dry friction by micro-thermal analysis [PDF]
Many tribological properties and wear mechanisms occurring on the micro-and nanoscale are strongly controlled by the so-called real contact area (Ar) which is a small fraction of the nominal or apparent contact area (Aa). The determination of Ar is often
