Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Mechanical–electric dual characteristics solid–liquid interfacing sensor for accurate liquid identification

open access: yesNature Communications
The demand for portable and rapid identification of liquids has challenged traditional laboratory methods. Here, we propose a high-accuracy liquid identification strategy that integrates water droplet mechanics and solid–liquid interface contact ...

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Szlakami Teorii Sprężystości

open access: yesEngineering Transactions, 1955
A general historical survey of mechanics of deformable bodies, in which the history of that science is divided into three periods (from Galileo to Navier, from N a vier to the creation of the theory of plasticity and from that date up to the present), is

Creep-type all-solid-state cathode achieving long life

open access: yesNature Communications
Electrochemical-mechanical coupling poses enormous challenges to the interfacial and structural stability but create new opportunities to design innovative all-solid-state batteries from scratch. Relying on the solid-solid constraint in the space-limited

A novel multi-dimensional Eulerian approach to computational solid dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Many problems in solid dynamics involve moving boundaries, finite elastoplastic deformations, and strong non-linear waves. Continuum modelling of such events is difficult on account of these characteristics, and there exist a number of inadequacies in

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Scaling transformations in solid mechanics

open access: yes, 2007
First a brief historical overview of the development of scaling methods is given. Then it is argued that scaling in solid mechanics should not be restricted to just the equivalence of dimensionless parameters characterising the problem under ...

Effect of solid thermal conductivity and particle-particle contact on effective thermodiffusion coefficient in porous media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Transient mass transfer associated to a thermal gradient through a saturated porous medium is studied experimentally and theoretically to determine the effect of solid thermal conductivity and particle-particle contact on thermodiffusion processes.

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,
