Modeling contacts in a physically based simulation
Abstract The paper presents a model of polyhedral contact that can be used in a physically based simulation. The model is based on a geometric analysis formulated as a static problem in 3D space. The geometric analysis of contact between a pair of objects determines the set of surface areas which are in contact and their associated normals.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Semi-Empirical Model of Tire-Pavement Contact
Mathematical model of the tire-pavement interaction is presented in the paper. One of the main features of the model is easy identification of the parameter values by means typical testing equipment.

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Contact Force Estimation in the Railway Vehicle Wheel-Rail Interface [PDF]
Increased patronage of railways in the UK in the past 20 years has put demands on rolling stock to operate at peak availability with reduced time available for maintenance.

Study of a parabolic cylinder elastic-plastic contact model
Based on Hertz contact theory, two parabolic cylinder normal contact models are established. The effect of contact angle on normal approach, actual contact area, and normal contact stiffness are investigated, and the effect of the distance from the focus

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

On the contact width in generalized plain strain JKR model for isotropic solids [PDF]
Adhesive contact model between an elastic cylinder and an elastic half space is studied in the present paper, in which an external pulling force is acted on the above cylinder with an arbitrary direction and the contact width is assumed to be asymmetric ...

The biomechanical-model-based approach with a contact model offers advantages in estimating ground reaction forces (GRFs) and ground reaction moments (GRMs), as it does not rely on the need for training data and gait assumptions.
