Simulation Study on Sealing Performance of Special Threaded Connector Under Vibration Conditions

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2023
The traditional statics theory cannot effectively explain the sealing failure of special threaded connector caused by pipe string vibration. Therefore,in the paper, based on the theory of energy dissipation, considering the influence of micro contact slip ...

Validity of a Wearable Digital Insole for Assessing Gait ON and OFF in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Gait impairment is a distinctive symptom of Parkinson's disease that negatively impact mobility. We assessed the validity of wearable digital insoles against a validated reference gait analysis system for measuring select gait characteristics in patients with Parkinson's disease. Methods A comparative analysis between digital insoles

Compatibility measure and penalized contact resolution for incompatible interfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Handling of large industrial mechanical assemblies implies structure interactions commonly modeled with contact formulations. In cases where component interfaces are discretized using non conforming meshes, classical contact solutions have difficulties ...

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Fretting wear of lubricated DLC coating systems

open access: yesFrontiers in Mechanical Engineering
Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) coatings are well known for their use in protection against fretting wear due to their low friction and wear properties. DLCs are metastable, allowing them to graphitise under applied load to create a graphitic transfer layer ...

The Role of Calcitonin Gene‐Related Peptide in High‐Altitude Headache: A Prospective Field Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective High‐altitude headache (HAH) is a common neurological condition associated with rapid ascent to high altitude. The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying HAH remain incompletely understood. Calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP), a neuropeptide implicated in migraine pathophysiology, may play a key role in the pathophysiology of ...

Benchmarking Signorini and exponential contact laws for an industrial train brake squeal application [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Contact representation of structure interactions for finite element models is nowadays of great interest in the industry. Two contact modellig strategies exist in the literature, either based on a perfect contact with no interpenetration of structures at

Effects of surface defects on rolling contact fatigue of 60/40 brass [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
A study into effects of surface defects on rolling contact fatigue of 60/40 brass under a maximum contact pressure of 600 MPa and a slide–roll ratio of ?1% was undertaken on a twin-disc rolling–sliding test machine.

Refreezing of frictional meltwater behind a sliding ski

open access: yesFriction
Low friction on snow has been attributed to the formation of a frictional meltwater layer for many years, yet experimental evidence for this mechanism has remained inconsistent.
