Contact pressure in indented elastohydrodynamic lubrication contacts

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2008
Indents perturb the pressure and stress distribution and increase the failure risk. Existing theory for roughness deformation is extended to pure-rolling elastohydrodynamic lubrication indented contact pressure perturbations. First, a study of shallow indents is proposed, then it is modified to account for non-linear behavior of deeper indents.

Contact Pressure and Stress Distribution

1995
A foundation is the interface between a structural load and the ground. The stress q applied by a structure to a foundation is often assumed to be uniform. The actual pressure then applied by the foundation to the soil is a reaction, called the contact pressure p and its distribution beneath the foundation may be far from uniform.

Finger joint contact areas and pressures

Journal of Orthopaedic Research, 1985
AbstractAlthough the joints of the index finger are similar geometrically and kinematically, the occurrence of degenerative joint disease is more frequent and severe in the distal interphalangeal joint. Much circumstantial evidence exists to suggest a mechanical cause for the observed differences in frequency.

Pressure contacted IGBTs

IEE Colloquium Recent Advances in Power Devices, 1999
Some of the design considerations for the implementation of a bondless, pressure contacted IGBT are outlined. Whilst the electrical performance of each type of device is similar, some differences in the mechanical and thermal properties of pressure contacted devices to those exhibited by substrate mounted devices are highlighted.

Effect of surface dents on contact pressure in elastohydrodynamic contacts

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2009
Nowadays film thickness measurement techniques can provide precise data for the detailed studies of the behaviour of lubricated contacts including transient operational conditions. Contact pressure is in relation with deformation of rubbing surfaces, which can be derived from experimentally evaluated film thickness.

Ultrasonic Measurement of Contact Pressures in Automotive Component Contacts

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2006
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The measurement of pressure at a contact in engine parts is important, because it is frequently contact stresses that lead to failure by seizure, wear, or fatigue. Whilst an interface might appear smooth on a macro-scale, it consists of regions of asperity contact and air gaps on a micro-scale. The reflection of an

The Contact Patch Test for Linear Contact Pressure Distributions in 2D Frictionless Contact

2011
It is well known that the classical one-pass node-to-segment algorithms for the enforcement of contact constraints fail the contact patch test. The situation is particularly critical when using the penalty method. In a recent study, the authors proposed a modified one-pass node-to-segment algorithm able to pass the contact patch test also in ...
