A positioning sensor for tonometric applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
In this paper we present a sensor, which is designed for application in a tonometer, an instrument for the measurement of intraocular pressure. The sensor measures diameter and position of a part of the eye globe that is flattened by the tonometer.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Formulations of the deformable foundation contact problems

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2002
Up to now in many works a construction on elastic foundation was modelled by the Winkler's hypothesis. In this paper the flexible plate-foundation system is investigated as an interaction of separate elastic bodies, which lie on the contact surface. Such

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Revisiting Mission‐Oriented Cancer Research to tackle the increasing burden of cancer in Europe–a policy perspective

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Translational cancer research and its implementation through competitively selected Comprehensive Cancer Centers across Europe should be the primary policy focus for addressing the increasing cancer burden in Europe and counteract the present main strategy to convert cancer to a chronic disease.

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Non-contact method to reduce contact problems between sample and electrode in dielectric measurements

open access: yesHigh Voltage, 2020
Dielectric response measurement is a widely used technique for characterising dielectric materials in terms of their capacitance and dielectric loss. However, the widely used approach with contact between samples and electrodes can in some cases limit ...

Tykhonov well-posedness of fixed point problems in contact mechanics

open access: yesFixed Point Theory and Algorithms for Sciences and Engineering, 2022
We consider a fixed point problem S u = u $\mathcal {S}u=u$ where S : C ( R + ; X ) → C ( R + ; X ) ${\mathcal {S}:C(\mathbb{R}_{+};X)\to C(\mathbb{R}_{+};X)}$ is an almost history-dependent operator.

Noether Theorem in Stochastic Optimal Control Problems via Contact Symmetries

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
We establish a generalization of the Noether theorem for stochastic optimal control problems. Exploiting the tools of jet bundles and contact geometry, we prove that from any (contact) symmetry of the Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equation associated with an ...

A phase-field method for modeling cracks with frictional contact

open access: yes, 2019
We introduce a phase-field method for continuous modeling of cracks with frictional contacts. Compared with standard discrete methods for frictional contacts, the phase-field method has two attractive features: (1) it can represent arbitrary crack ...
